A Fan Profile: Duchess of Sussex on IG (Rebecca)

Duchess of Sussex on IG

Duchess of Sussex on IG (Rebecca) is the first Sussex related account we ever followed and trusted on Instagram. The Sussex Squad all know Michelle and Tina are not big fans of Sussex related fan pages on Instagram, but her page is one of our favorites. It is literally one of the best accounts on the internet that highlights the work and uplifts Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. We were so happy to have caught up with her and had the chance to ask her a few questions! Please read below for more.

1. Tell us what made you want to run a fan page for Harry and Meghan.

I honestly believed I had something new to offer and I wanted to follow them closely. I followed quite a few Meghan accounts before creating my own and I noticed they lacked detail and context in their posts. I don’t know about you but I love a well detailed post. The Meghan pages I was following at the time would often have one to two lined captions. For someone who loves detail, I would end up having to search for extra information. Detailed posts with everything covered can stop people from feeling tempted to clicking on tabloid articles.

As I watched the Royal wedding (19th May) I thought why not create my own page?

2. What is the most difficult part about running the page?
Responding to the hundreds of messages I receive! I always feel bad but I’m only one person and extremely busy. I can’t possibly reply to everyone :(.

3.We know almost everything associated with Harry and Meghan almost automatically gets trolls. How have you been able to deal with that?

Last year, I took the initiative to combat that problem by limiting comments to followers only and restricting hateful words so they don’t appear at all. But some followers do help by tagging me if they see the odd hateful comment and I block straight away.

4. Your page is one of the fan pages that almost everyone follows and speaks highly of. What’s your secret to how you got it to this point?
Aw! Thank you. I’m still shocked that this page has grown this much. I created it on their wedding day and now I have over 265K followers – it’s insane. There’s truly no secret but one thing I’d say is originality and consistency. Most importantly, what do you offer that other pages don’t?

5.  What are you looking forward to the most about what Harry and Meghan will do in the future?
The work they will be doing including their upcoming non profit. I’m also looking forward to their work with Netflix. I’m quite the Netflix junkie! But it’s clear a lot of things are on hold due to the pandemic. Anything Sussex will make me content either way – I can’t wait for 2021!

6.Will anything change with the way you cover Harry and Meghan’s project going forward with the foundation and when they start producing the movies and other projects?
Not at all! I’m 100% dedicated. This page is a creative outlet for me and I enjoy following them closely. I’ve been here for two years – not going anywhere, anytime soon!

7.  We definitely appreciate you always having the details of their appearances almost immediately they complete one. How much work and time goes into doing this?
It is hard to quantify now…as things have calmed down since they stepped down as Senior Working Royals.

The Sussexes South Pacific tour in 2018 was probably the busiest I have been with this page. That tour was full of back to back engagements! The time difference (9 hours behind 🇬🇧) was a killer but I remained committed. I was awake at 2 am updating my page. Talk about dedication! A lot of people messaged me and commented thanking me for being reliable. They could rely on me for immediate content without having to hassle around for information. My page grew so much from that period. Plus, Princess Eugenie liked one of my pictures of Meghan so that got a lot of coverage in the press and resulted in another huge boost to my following.

The key is also to plan in advance. I always had captions pre-written for their Royal engagements. Unannounced engagements catch me off guard at times. You all know I love detailed posts mostly to stop people from clicking on tabloid articles.

8. What has been your favorite project of Harry, and then of Meghan?

Invictus! It’s truly grown over the years and gained huge recognition. It is already a huge part of Harry’s legacy.

For Meghan, it would be her first project! The award-winning ‘Together: Our Community Kitchen Cookbook’, which she foreword and developed with the women from the Hubb Community Kitchen. Her relationship with them is still very much intact to this day and she continues to support them in their endeavours.

9.This very important to the Twitter squaddies answer wisely; If they had another baby team Boy, girl, or twins?
Team Girl all the way! Harry would be the cutest girl dad.

10.Tell us something about you so we get to know a bit about the face behind the page.
Most of you know, I live in the UK. I’m currently in my final year of university. Very stressful trying to keep on top of everything but [laughs] I’m surviving!

Thank you so much Rebeca for doing this! We know you were busy with school and your page when we asked you! Thanks for all you do for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!
