Oh, how the tables have turned.
One year ago, we couldn’t stop hearing about how Harry and Meghan leaving The Firm would result in failure for the couple. Article after article, sometimes up to 20 a day, predicting their demise.
The premise was that no other Royals had managed to do it successfully before, but when have we ever had Royals like Harry and Meghan?
Fast forward to 2021 and the 12-month review is almost over. It might as well just be scrapped now. The only people still hanging onto it are the remaining Royals and British reporters.
In the last few weeks though, the narrative in the media has changed. It’s gone from ‘they will survive, to ‘there’s no way back for them now’.
I DON’T KNOW WHO NEEDS TO HEAR THIS BUT HARRY AND MEGHAN ARE NOT COMING BACK!
The Firm, the British Press, and other Royals are acting like the scorned ex who can’t get over that they were dumped for a hot new, much wealthier lover.
Harry and Meghan don’t need the Royals and their bought and paid for reporters; it’s the Royals and reporters who need them.
They have lost, and cannot handle defeat. Have you ever seen this much complaining and explaining?
They actually thought our faves would be scrounging for cash, yet it is their own money well that has dried up. We see grown photographers crying on national television and whining on Twitter because they can’t make money, and gossip writers desperate to make a story out of nothing.
I do wonder, did the Royal households and press really believe their own fake news?
Did they really believe Harry, Diana’s son – the most charming, loved, and adored member of the Royals – would end up hawking milk in cheesy ads?
Did they really believe the UN ambassador, actress, self-made millionaire, and well-connected, the entrepreneurial goddess would fall to her knees?
That hasn’t happened, and what may be even more difficult for them to process, is they may have inadvertently fueled the level of global awareness the couple now command.
The level of press attention Meghan and Harry receive would cost a company millions if they hired a PR firm to generate it.
Not to take away Meghan and Harry’s own smart business moves and talent for brokering deals and being innovative, but, no one gets big money deals from Netflix and Spotify unless it’s guaranteed that you will command eyeballs. Big corporates don’t pay you big money because they like you – they pay you for the audience you bring.
As the great Emperor Matthew Knowles – father of Beyonce Gisele – once said; all publicity is good publicity.
Fans pay your utility bills and grocer shopping – it’s the haters who cover the rent.
The attacks that were designed to destroy them – while nasty and unforgivable – have only kept them in the public conscious, and now that they’re ready to unveil their projects, there will be no stopping them.
No matter how much The Firm and the British Press want to ignore it, Harry and Meghan do have fans and a global audience who want to listen to what they have to say and buy into whatever they have to sell.
Royal protocol no longer matters.
The opinions of courtiers no longer matter, and anyone who honestly thinks Harry and Meghan are cross-checking their deals with anyone in that Palace is kidding themselves. The vipers know nothing.
The Royals are going to be incandescent with rage for a long time to come.
Tick tock, tick tock….what one year review?
